History of memory cards

in old days

Since memory cards have been introduced, around 1990, the technology has become much more complex. It has started to evolve in ways we have not thought it was possible. The mobile phone industry has started to develop devices with a high storage capacity and incredible features. Today you can have a mobile phone with a 5 megapixels camera with a few dollars.  You are also able to store hundreds of MB on your phone, all thanks to the memory cards. As the mobile industry developed, the need for extra storage appeared and SD cards emerged.

After the SD card was introduced, Mini SDs, MicroSDs and MS Micro 2 followed. After that, the Micro SDHC cards were released. SanDisk was the first manufacturer who understood this trend and followed it, developing great memory cards. Right now many mobile phones and digital cameras use these cards. The cards also control Xboxes, Play Stations and other devices.

The memory cards range from 512MB to an impressive 8GB. Right now SanDisk produces memory cards for slim Sony Ericsson phones. One great thing about the M2 cards is the high compatibility and the storage capacities of 1GB, 2GB and also 4GB. Pro duo memories are used in consoles such as the Sony PSP, PlayStation 3, and many Sony Cybershot cameras. MicroSD cards are mostly used for the smaller mobile phones and they have special USB adapters, making the media transfer a piece of cake. You need to take the microSD card out of the phone and place it in the USB adapter. The transfer will be done in no time. MicroSD cards have storage capacities of 1GB or 2GB.

MicroSDHC memory cards can be found in Blackberry phones and also in all the smart phones such as those from LG, HTC, or Nokia. They can store 4GB or 8GB of data for music, videos or photos.
